Lick Run Greenway Historic/Cultural Mitigation Work
Major infrastructure projects often require an evaluation of how historic properties in the area will be impacted. MSD conducted the following research and mitigation work for the Lick Run Greenway project:
- Community study that identified 5 properties in the path of the Lick Run Greenway that were potentially eligible for National Register of Historic Properties (NRHP)
- Archaeological investigation
- Mitigation Plan to address impacts to the potential NRHP properties and a second generation moon tree
- Mitigation work, which was reviewed per Section 106 by the Ohio EPA's State Historic Preservation Office:
- Two local artists from Numediacy developed a video history of buildings in South Fairmount called Lick Run Revival
- MSD actively encouraged the private relocation of the five potential NRHP buildings. The buildings were placed on a national website that promoted sale/relocation, highlighted in local media and featured in a national historic preservation magazine. No bids were received.
- A plant nursery in Hamilton cloned three baby "moon trees" that were planted on the south side of the pond at the Lick Run Greenway.
- MSD developed signage for the Lick Run Greenway and a Heritage Trail (both in person and virtual) on South Fairmount's history.
