The Bloody Run Project includes the installation of a real-time control (RTC) facility at the CSO 181 outfall into the Bloody Run Channel in St. Bernard. The channel discharges into the Mill Creek.
This federally mandated project, part of MSD’s solution for the Mill Creek, began in November 2017 and should be completed by December 2018. The project will eliminate an estimated 93 million gallons of CSOs into the Mill Creek each year.
The project involves replacing the existing CSO 181 outfall structure with a small, underground facility that houses specialized gates and is automatically controlled by a series of sensors. The facility will temporarily store excess flows of sewage and rainwater during storms, and then send it to the Mill Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant when capacity in the sewer system is available.
The project is located just northwest of the intersection of Murray Road and Prosser Avenue.
