Sewer Improvements Are Being Planned for the Werk & Westbourne Area
The Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) of Greater Cincinnati has made it a priority to reduce overflows from the combined sewer system that occur near the intersection of Werk Road and Westbourne Drive in Green Township. These overflows and the associated odor issue have been on-going concerns for the surrounding community.
The solution is to construct an Enhanced High Rate Treatment (EHRT) facility to capture, store and treat most overflows before they are released into Schaible Creek, a Muddy Creek tributary that runs parallel to Westbourne Drive. Planning and conceptual design is now underway. Facility design is to be completed in the spring of 2014, at which point construction is expected to begin. The facility is scheduled to be operational by December 2017.
By managing combined sewer overflows (CSOs) at this site, MSD will be better able to protect public health and the local environment, as well as improve neighborhood aesthetics by significantly reducing sewer odors and eliminating sewer debris along the streambed.
