Project Updates
Previous Progress Update – May 2013 (return to the current progress update)
Thank you for your continued interest in MSD's Werk & Westbourne Enhanced High Rate Treatment (WWEHRT) Facility, situated on the southwest corner of the Werk Road & Westbourne Drive intersection. This facility will allow MSD to control most combined sewer overflow events at this site, provide better protection of public health and the local environment, eliminate sewer debris, and reduce sewer odors in the near vicinity. The following is a summary of the project's progress.
Detailed Design Phase
Last fall, the WWEHRT Project Team concluded preliminary facility design efforts and in November, began detailed design. The 60% design effort was subsequently completed in March. Key elements of this phase of development included:
- Design development for underground storage and treatment basins and channel structures for the facility's Operations Building
- Advanced architectural design to identify locations of wall sections, windows, doors, building heights and exterior treatments
- Hydraulic modeling of key influent and pumping structures
- Advanced design of the mechanical systems, including sizing and placement of major equipment
- Continued planning of facility's site layout
- Development and identification of equipment and material specifications
- Refinements to facility operations and maintenance procedures
- Integration of sustainable stormwater management solutions
Other Initiatives
The WWEHRT Project Team finalized its Geotechnical Exploration Report in December 2012. This report details the character of subsurface soil, rock and water conditions on the project site and was a necessary part of planning the structural design elements of the WWHERT Facility. Anyone interested in viewing the report should contact the MSD Engineering Customer Service Line at (513) 557-3594 or via email at MSDCommunications@cincinnati-oh.gov
The WWEHRT Project Team is continuing coordination efforts with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to obtain approval of its Section 404 permit application. As part of this effort, the team has submitted to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service a draft plan for reducing impacts. Responses received to date have been positive.
The WWEHRT Project Team has continued coordination with several local agencies including Hamilton County Planning and Development, Hamilton County Engineer's Office, Hamilton County Soil and Water, and Green Township Fire & EMS to facilitate necessary project planning reviews and approvals.
Next Steps
As the WWEHRT Project Team advances toward 90% design completion for the facility, MSD will be coordinating with Green Township officials to review and discuss facility design, site layout, operations and related community issues. A public meeting will be scheduled soon after to share and discuss plans with neighbors and other interested parties. Construction of the WWEHRT Facility is scheduled to start in 2014 and the facility will be operational no later than December 2017.
