Project Updates
Progress Update – May 2016 (return to the current progress update)
Thank you for your continued interest in MSD's Werk & Westbourne Enhanced High Rate Treatment (WWEHRT) Facility, situated on the southwest corner of the Werk Road & Westbourne Drive intersection. This facility will allow MSD to control most combined sewer overflow events at this site, provide better protection of public health and the local environment, eliminate sewer debris, and reduce sewer odors in the near vicinity. The following is a summary of the project's progress.
Project Status Update
Design for the the Werk & Westbourne Enhanced High Rate Treatment (WWEHRT) Facility is complete!
Conceptual renderings of how the completed facility will look were shared at a community meeting held last fall and are currently posted on the project website (five different views of the facility are provided under the Facility Renderings heading on the right hand side of the page).
More detailed information about the WWEHRT Facility—including its purpose, benefits, operations and appearance—is provided in the WWEHRT 2015 Newsletter.
The construction bid package was recently released and bidding opportunities are posted on the City’s Open Data website. Construction of the facility is expected to begin mid-summer and the facility will be operational by the end of 2017.
Site Preparation Work
To begin preparing the WWEHRT Facility project site for construction, crews have cut down trees from the planned construction area, which extends along the northeastern, northern and western perimeters of the property. Trees were taken down because they were either located within the construction zone for the WWEHRT Facility and planned sewer line improvements, or their root systems were at risk of irreparable damage by construction activities. Vegetation will be removed from the site once construction begins.
MSD recognizes and respects the concern that neighbors have regarding the removal of vegetation and trees on this site and remains committed to planting new trees, shrubs and other plants around the property once construction of the WWEHRT Facility is complete. At the community meeting held last fall, the WWEHRT Project Team asked the community for their preferences about the types of plants and trees they wanted placed around the site. The Project Team has worked with a licensed landscape architect to develop a landscaping plan for the property using feedback received from the community as well as guidance outlined in the Hamilton County Zoning Resolution to determine the plant and tree selections for the site. Although final decisions have yet to be made, plant selections focus on native plant species known to grow well in the area.
